子供の頃、お母さんのワードローブからこっそりあれやこれやと引っ張りだしてきては

ひとつひとつ袖通して、ボタンを閉めて、足を通して、ファスナーを閉めて…

大人のコーデって、なんかちょっとファニーで不思議な組み合わせになるんだな、なんて笑って。

いつか、私もこんな服を着る日がくるかな？女の子なら一度は味わった事があるあの感じ。

My mother was a true blue clothes horse (let’s call her a pony, “horse” sounds terrible). Her closet spilled out of the one my mother and father shared into half of my brother’s, and then into half of mine. She came of working age in the 80s, so there were lots of colorful patterned collar shirts and “power” blazers in which she would remove the shoulder pads (they’re “icky”, she’d say. Progressive!!). As a child, I remember trying them on, swimming in their long sleeves. I wondered if there ever would be a day I`d understand this kind of fashion, or ever figure out how to wear it without giggling. Being a little girl trying on mature clothes is always a strange, magical experience…one that we easily forget. I was reminded of this while scrolling through the Akane Utsunomiya Spring 2016 catalog.

タイトスカートは庭で走り回るわたしにはちょっと動きにくいから切り込み入れちゃおう！そしたらスリットだらけになって、ママにひどく怒られたっけ。それでも、ママの服でおめかししたわたしは無敵で、気分はのりのり。ママのメイク道具にも手が伸びて、見よう見まねでアイシャドウをばっちり。

楽しいけど、やっぱりわたしはショッキングピンクのスカートにパープルのリュックが大好き！

アカネウツノミヤの2016ssコレクションを見たときそんなエピソードが浮かんだ。

すっかり大人になった”わたし”。今もファッションが大好きで、まいにちおしゃれを楽しむ素敵レディになった。そのルーツはやっぱり幼い時のあの”秘密の遊び”。あのわくわくできらきらでちょっぴる可笑しい思い出を胸に、今もファッションに恋するモード女子。あれ…気がつけば私もママみたいな服を着ている！あんなにフリルスカートとスパッツが好きだったのに！このコレクションの主人公はこんな女性だろうか。

長い袖をはじめ、短冊形にカットされたスカートやトップスの裾、全体的なシルエット、どれを取っても”縦ライン”というキーワードを感じる。ジャケット、ウエストスカート、ハーフパンツ、ニットワンピなどアイテムはベーシックなものだけど、ひとつひとつディテールを見ると複雑なパターンや計算されたカッティング、パイピングやグラフィカルなプリントなど、随所にこだわりや丁寧なものづくりが見られる。

大人になると仕事や家事に追われてついつい後回しにされてしまうのがファッション。でも、いつになっても子供の頃に抱いたファッションへの憧れを忘れずに、ずっとファッションを愛し続ける。毎朝、服を着る度にわくわくして、お気に入りの服を着て鏡に映る自分をみて、にやけちゃったりして。そんな人生って素敵！

Japanese fashion thrives on having that ingredient of looking “odd”, but somehow pulling it off through impeccable styling and finish. Sometimes it really is like a bunch of little girls trying on mom’s clothes, and selling the look like a boss. Akane Utsunomiya brings us a closet for playing dress-up in Spring 2016, and adds in her fantastic selection of colorful textiles and unique asymmetrical cuts. Her brand is a slow-burning one, but each season it gets better, bigger, and more well-known (it worked for Sacai, so there’s no rush).

There are lots of references to a “Japanese” mother’s closet there as well- a loose kimono robe, and long slit sweaters are reminiscent of old uniforms with their long hems.

There’s nothing funny about the adult uniform we call clothes, but as fantastic as we might find these, there sure is to be a little girl around giggling at the thought of having to wear it.
